Energy Star Rating

Constructing an Energy Star Rated Home is fast moving to the top of many new home owners' priority lists and selecting an Energy Star partner / builder who is connected to a reputable Energy Star Home Rater is their next important step.

Homes that earn the Energy Star mark are significantly more energy efficient than standard homes. Energy Star Builders with the guidance of their affiliated Energy Star Rater, achieve this high efficiency for you by selecting from a wide variety of features and products, then to be inspected and verified by an independent Home Energy Rater, in which Tyler Stein of "IN THE NOW..." is certified. We as an Official Energy Star Rating firm, then conduct onsite inspections and tests to verify the performance of the energy efficiency features that have been selected for your home. And any builder who has worked with Tyler Stein of In the Now... For the Future as their Energy Rater will tell you... Tyler goes the extra mile and beyond to work with them, the builder and the home owner striving to find just the right formula for their energy saving features and products based on Energy Star's requirements, building codes and the homeowner's desires and budget.

As every custom home is unique in it's design, so will be it's specific energy saving features and requirements based on size, design, materials, location, etc. There is nothing generic about creating a home's energy saving formula. Unlike many other Energy Star Raters, Tyler has the years of building science background to supplement his extensive energy studies, certifications and continued education and research to best educate and consult with each homeowner and builder throughout the whole building process.

A home energy rating [required to obtain an Energy Star ranked home] involves an analysis of a home's construction plans and onsite inspection. Based on the home's plans, the Home Energy Rater uses an energy efficiency software package to perform an energy analysis of the homes' design. This analysis yields a projected, preconstruction HERS Index. Upon completion of the plan review Tyler will work with the builder to identify the energy efficiency improvements needed to ensure the home will meet ENERGY STAR performance guidelines. IN THE NOW... will then conduct onsite inspections, typically including the blower door test which tests the leakiness of the structure and a duct test which will test the leakiness of the ducts. Results of these tests, along with inputs derived from the plan review are used to generate the HERS Index score for your home.

The time and studies that IN THE NOW... FOR THE FUTURE puts into your home's energy plan goes much beyond the required periodic inspections and roll requirements of a Certified Energy Star Rater assuring you of the highest level of desired and deserved enjoyment possible out of your new Energy Star Home's performance...
